Cremorne Place Implementation Plan

Today the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA), in partnership with the City of Yarra, released the Cremorne Place Implementation Plan (PDF) to guide the development of Cremorne as a thriving global innovation precinct.

Cremorne, next to Richmond on the eastern fringe of Melbourne’s CBD, is crucial to Victoria’s economy. As a global innovation precinct, it contributes $4 billion to the Victorian economy each year. It is home to some of Victoria’s most successful creative and digital enterprises and has fostered the success of multiple tech ‘unicorns’ – startups that have attained billion-dollar valuations such as REA Group and SEEK.

As we rebuild Victoria’s economy, it is crucial Cremorne becomes even more attractive as a destination for startups and creative and digital enterprises.

Startups and enterprises have been attracted to Cremorne for years thanks to its historic character, quality amenity and proximity to the CBD. But as the precinct grows and as we work to rebuild our economy, the Victorian Government is doing more to support Cremorne’s development.

The Cremorne Place Implementation Plan will ensure the growth and development of this sector builds on the strengths that have made Cremorne such an attractive destination for startups and enterprises.

The plan sets a long term vision for Cremorne as a global innovation precinct with a vibrant village feel. It guides how the precinct should develop to support high-tech, innovative enterprises and investment while building on its unique attributes and location.

Many of the actions in the plan are already underway, and the Victorian Planning Authority has funded early works to update parking, planning and built form controls in the precinct.
