Open Data Platform

The Australian and Victorian Governments both promote and encourage public access to public data.  Access to public data supports research, education, planning and promotes innovation.  However, not all government data is suitable for release, for a range of privacy, confidentiality and other reasons.

The DataVic Access Policy was developed by the Victorian Government in recognition of the benefits of open data. A full copy of the Data policies and standards is available here.

Many planning related spatial datasets (including Planning Zones, Urban Growth Boundary and Cadastral Information) are maintained by Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and are available at the Data Vic website here

In line with the Data Vic Access Policy, the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is committed to providing free, open data.  The VPA currently have available spatial datasets representing the Greenfield Precinct Structure Plan Boundaries and Approved Precinct Structure Plan Land Use data.  A detailed description of the Spatial Data Description – Melbourne’s Greenfields Precinct Structure Plans (PDF) is available here.
