Tribute to Peter Seamer from the chair
Peter Seamer today has announced his resignation as CEO of the Victorian Planning Authority.
Over the past 10 years, Peter has led and built the VPA from its beginnings as the Growth Areas Authority becoming the MPA, through to the organisation it is today. Today it is a high performing organisation with a culture of excellence. There is an exacting program to deliver strategic precinct plans in partnership with local councils, the private sector and other parts of government. Peter has led this program.
Peter has inspired those people he has worked with to ensure our overall strategic planning processes are more streamlined and what I call the metabolic rate is lifted.
Right now housing in Melbourne is significantly more affordable than it is in Sydney. Peter has shown how that can be done and how it can be maintained. So it’s all shoulders to the wheel from all of us in inner, middle and outer Melbourne and from Victoria’s regional centres to support our expected population of 10.1 million people in Victoria in 2051. That’s the challenge lying ahead of us all.
There will be other opportunities for us to say farewell to Peter before he leaves to have a well deserved break from 13 April, but I wanted on behalf of the VPA board, to take this opportunity to acknowledge Peter’s outstanding leadership of strategic planning in Victoria in paving the way.
