CEO update: 21 December 2016

Dear colleague,

New Chair of the VPA

Our Minister has appointed Ms Jude Munro AO as the new Chair of the VPA. Jude is best known as the highly successful CEO of several councils, most notably Brisbane – Australia’s largest council for 10 years – but also Adelaide, Moreland and, prior to amalgamations, St Kilda.

Jude brings skills in statutory governance and transformational change to the board, as well as strong, demonstrated leadership, and significant experience in board positions.

In addition to the appointment of the new Chairperson, the VPA’s six existing board members include Bill Kusznirczuk (who has been acting Chair for the past few months), The Hon. Theo Theophanous, Freya Marsden, Brian Haratsis, Jennifer Cunich and Trevor Budge. I would like to express my thanks to the Board for their support in 2016.

Jude chairs or is on a number of Boards across Australia and will be a strong Chair who will steer the VPA through its next few years. I’ve known Jude for a long time and have utmost respect for her capability, common sense and toughness when required.

Welcome Jude.

New and changing government entities

A number of new government entities are in the process of being established, while some existing entities are taking on new roles. Some of these are as a result of election commitments, including the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) and Infrastructure Victoria (IV). Others, such as the Latrobe Valley Authority, are a result of government recognition of new priorities and opportunities.

Click here for a list of the new and changing land-related government entities. This represents our interpretation of the roles and functions. As the entities evolve this will be refined and may change over time.

The VPA is working with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and the entities to work out how best we can collaborate. Much of this process will be clarified with the update of Plan Melbourne.
