Who we are

The organisation

The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is a state government statutory authority that reports to the Minister for Planning.   Our roles and responsibilities are established under the Victorian Planning Authority Act 2017. The VPA’s main task is to ensure Melbourne and Victoria’s regions remain great places to live as the state grows to a projected population of up to 10 million people by 2051.  This requires vision and long-term planning, so that Victorians have equitable access to employment, public transport, attractive public space and affordable housing.

The Victorian Public Sector values and associated Code of Conduct underpin all of our interactions with communities, stakeholders, partners and each other.  The VPA has a further four values which are crucial to the way we work together as an organisation to deliver quality outcomes for Victoria’s growing and future communities:

  • Leadership
  • Partnership
  • Professionalism
  • Responsiveness

We encourage a spirit of innovation and creativity to ensure positive urban planning outcomes for strategic precincts. We pride ourselves on our professionalism and our ability to overcome barriers and deliver great plans for precincts and places.

This would not be possible without the best people and we ensure that every person at the VPA feels connected to our outcomes.  We are committed to ensuring our entire team is supported, empowered and valued and we actively nurture a culture of continual learning and innovation.
