New suburb for Melbourne’s most south-eastern edge

The Victorian Planning Authority (MPA) is consulting on plans for one of the final new estates in Melbourne’s thriving south-east.

The McPherson Precinct Structure (PSP) plan will open for community consultation on Thursday, June 2.

The new suburb will sit right at the edge of Melbourne’s urban growth boundary, with the MPA having successfully unlocked developable land within the south-eastern boundary.

As well as enjoying affordable housing, the future 28,000 residents will have access to large open space, town centres, sports fields and schools.

The new suburb is expected to support over 10,100 dwellings and more than 1600 local jobs.

It will provide a discrete, walkable neighbourhood within a sustainable riverine environment, focusing on the natural features of Cardinia and Clyde Creeks.

The McPherson Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) is now on formal exhibition and the Victorian Planning Authority is seeking public submissions after more than two years of preparation.

More than 50 new suburbs have been delivered through the state’s green field program established in 2006, helping Victoria to keep pace with Melbourne’s thriving population.

Quotes attributable to Victorian Planning Authority chief executive, Peter Seamer:

“We know there is a high demand for housing in Melbourne’s outer south-east and the MPA is responding to this demand by planning for well-designed precincts that will be great places to live.”

“McPherson is just 5km from Cranbourne East, Melbourne’s fastest growing suburb.”

“This region will not be built out any more, now that the urban growth boundary is solidly locked down.”
