The Victorian Planning Authority proudly acknowledges Victoria’s Aboriginal community and their rich culture and pays respect to their Elders past and present.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as Australia’s first peoples and as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land and water on which we rely.

We recognise and value the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people and communities to Victorian life and how this enriches us.

We embrace the spirit of reconciliation, working towards the equality of outcomes and ensuring an equal voice.

Project Status Update – November 2023

We have been working with the City of Greater Geelong to progress the planning for the Greater Avalon Employment Precinct by leading a co-design process with our project stakeholders and finalising technical reports to inform our plan.

Since our last update in July 2023, we have:

  • Held a co-design workshop in Geelong, which brought together representatives from State government, the City of Greater Geelong, Avalon Airport Corporation, and key landowners to develop ideas for a draft plan and explore the concept of an ‘aerotropolis’.
  • Finalised the Land Capability Assessment and Arboricultural Assessment, which are now available on the VPA website.

On 20 September 2023, the Victorian Government released Victoria’s Housing Statement: The decade ahead 2024-2034, in which it announced the Victorian Planning Authority will continue preparing Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs) for new housing and jobs in Melbourne and regional Victoria. We will conduct further work across 21 projects to deliver more than 60,000 homes and 60,000 jobs. These projects will deliver a sustainable supply of greenfield land, and more jobs close to home.

The Greater Avalon Employment Precinct is one of the 21 projects named in the Housing Statement.

In the coming months we will be focused on synthesising what we learned from the Co-design Workshop and publishing a Co-Design Workshop Summary Report on our website. This report will provide the basis for a draft precinct plan, which will be included in the report. We will also be engaging technical experts to prepare flood modelling for the precinct.

We are now in the process of updating our work program and confirming new timings for this project. We will provide another update with more details on our next steps once our work program is confirmed.
