We acknowledge Aboriginal people as Australia’s first peoples and as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land and water on which we rely.

We recognise and value the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people and communities to Victorian life and how this enriches us.

We embrace the spirit of reconciliation, working towards the equality of outcomes and ensuring an equal voice.

Project Status Updates

Project Status Updates – May 2024

The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is aware there has been extensive local media coverage of potential land contamination to existing properties that may have been upsetting for some landowners in North Wonthaggi.

The VPA and the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) are continuing to assist Bass Coast Shire Council in respect of this matter.  This work includes seeking the expert advice from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure potential risks posed to human health and the environment are appropriately managed and developing and assessing options to manage the impact of the introduction of the Environment Audit Overlay (EAO) on a number of properties in Wonthaggi North.

We will work with Council to ensure that all affected landowners are kept informed as this work continues.

If you have any specific questions relating to your individual property and what this means for you, please reach out to Bass Coast Shire Council via email on planningapplications@basscoast.vic.gov.au or for up to date information from Council please visit their website: Environmental Audit Overlay (EAO) | Bass Coast Shire

Should you have any questions or require further information from the VPA please email us at Info@vpa.vic.gov.au
