Road extension to create jobs and housing in south-east

The VPA was pleased to attend the turning of the sod for a 1.3km extension of Thompsons Road, in Clyde, on September 21.

The road extension is a vital part of the Thompsons Road Precinct Structure Plan, and will provide access to several new developments in Clyde, including the St Germain estate.

St Germain will be a mixed-use precinct that will have its own town centre, residential homes and a major employment hub for medical professionals.

Community infrastructure, commercial offices and state-of-the-art medical facilities will be built early in the precinct’s development, providing 3600 jobs in the popular growth area.

The VPA has worked closely with the estate’s developers, the Gill family, to ensure the project meets the appropriate planning requirements.

VPA welcomes the developers’ commitment to the timely delivery of infrastructure, which is a model for future greenfields development.

St Germain is one of the major estates to be developed in the area covered by the Thompsons Road Precinct Structure Plan (PSP), which was approved by the Minister for Planning in November 2014.

The PSP coveres 694 hectares in Clyde and includes provisions for 6000 homes, future schools and 120 hectares of land for commercial and industrial uses.

The total PSP area will be a base for 8900 jobs and have a population of approximately 17,000 people.
