Plan released for new suburb in Melbourne’s north
The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) has released the Beveridge Central Precinct Structure Plan for exhibition.
The PSP outlines the vision for a new suburb in Melbourne’s north that will accommodate more than 10,000 people and up to 3500 dwellings.
It will consist of 290 hectares of land generally bounded by Rankin Street to the south, Camerons Lane and the existing Beveridge Township to the north and north-east, Stewart Street to the east and Patterson Street to west.
Developers will contribute a total of $95 million to community infrastructure as the area develops.
The plan includes three local convenience centres, a sports reserve with soccer ovals and tennis courts, and a special heritage trail around the Kelly House Park.
Kelly House is the house that Australia’s most famous bushranger, Ned Kelly, lived in as a child. Minister for Planning Richard Wynne and Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green recently announced $1 million in funding for the home on Kelly Street, Beveridge.
The plan also facilitates the development of the Camerons Lane interchange, providing future access to the entire Beveridge growth front.
The PSP will go on exhibition on November 10 and the VPA will be hosting an information session about the plans on November 23.
The new suburb will be a 10-minute drive from key employment hubs, including the future Merrifield Business Park and Craigieburn.
It will have good access to the potential future Beveridge Train Station, and will also connect to the planned future Lockerbie Train Station.
Regarding current public transport, the suburb will be approximately 7km from Donnybrook Train Station, which runs a V/Line service.
Quote attributable to VPA chief executive, Peter Seamer:
“This plan paves the way for a vibrant new suburb in a popular growth corridor in Melbourne’s North.”
