Moorabbin Activity Centre

Moorabbin Activity Centre

Moorabbin is a great place to live and has the potential to be even greater.

The shops, cafes and restaurants around Central Avenue provide walkable access to daily needs, the parks and art centre mean there’s always something on, and Moorabbin Station makes it well connected to public transport, jobs, schools and services.

But right across Victoria, not enough people have the chance to afford a home close to the kinds of things Moorabbin has to offer. The status quo isn’t an option, we need to act now to make sure we build a future where every Victorian can afford a home in a place where they can thrive.

That’s why we want more Victorians to have the choice to call Moorabbin home.

Earlier this year, we asked what you love about Moorabbin. We’ve used your feedback to create theDraft Moorabbin Activity Centre Plan(PDF), to make sure we build more of the right types of homes in the right places, connected to the people and places we love.

Our plan will guide how Moorabbin will slowly change over the next few decades, between now and 2051. And as Moorabbin grows, we’ll make sure it continues to thrive by working with your local council to guide investment in the things that matter to you like improved streets, parks and community infrastructure.

It’s part ofVictoria’s Housing Statement, ourplan to deliver more homes for more Victorians, in the places people want to live.

About the Activity Centres Program

Right across Victoria, not enough people have the chance to afford a home close to their daily needs. The status quo isn’t an option, we need to act now to make sure we build a future where every Victorian can afford a home that’s right for them.

We will need 1.8 million new homes in metropolitan Melbourne by 2051. Making sure that new homes are well-located will allow us to maximise use of existing infrastructure and transport. The starting point is to look for places where more homes can be built, and the types of homes we need to suit all kinds of Victorians in all kinds of places.

As part of Victoria’s Housing Statement, we’re working with the Department of Transport and Planning to deliver 60,000 new homes close to services, jobs, and public transport in an initial 10 activity centres across Melbourne: Broadmeadows, Camberwell Junction, Chadstone, Epping, Frankston, Moorabbin, Niddrie (Keilor Road), North Essendon, Preston (High Street), and Ringwood.

It’s part of Victoria’s plan to deliver more homes for more Victorians, in the places people want to live.
