Project Status Updates – May 2023

Since our last update in March 2023, the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) has achieved significant milestones.

Pitching sessions

We conducted pitching sessions online and in-person in Ballarat. These sessions were valuable opportunities for landowners within the precinct boundary, and government stakeholders, to engage directly with the VPA team.

Participants shared their vision, ideas, and aspirations for their sites and the broader precinct. Engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders has been very productive, and we have received many valuable insights.

Common themes

During the pitching sessions, some common themes raised by stakeholders were:

  • A strong desire to address flooding and drainage concerns, considering the historical challenges faced by Ballarat.
  • Preserving and enhancing natural assets such as Mt Rowan, the Burrumbeet Creek, and the Ballarat Town Commons.
  • The need for expanded bike paths, walking trails along the creek and the Ballarat Town Commons, as well as improved traffic management on roads like Gillies Road.

We are analysing and collating the information we received during the pitching sessions into a pitching summary document. This will identify the key themes and priorities we heard in more detail.

Next steps

The next stage of the engagement process is Vision and Purpose, which builds on the outcomes of the pitching sessions. This stage allows us to collectively set the scene and establish a shared vision for the Ballarat North precinct.

We are also continuing to procure technical documents, ensuring they align with the emerging aspirations and goals.
