Ringwood Activity Centre

Ringwood Activity Centre

Ringwood is a great place to live and has the potential to be even greater.

People come from across the eastern suburbs to enjoy its shops, cafes, restaurants and community services. Its leafy green parks, family-friendly streets and the Mullum Mullum Creek have been places for the community to come together for generations.

But right across Victoria, not enough people have the chance to afford a home close to the kinds of things Ringwood has to offer. The status quo isn’t an option, we need to act now to make sure we build a future where every Victorian can afford a home in a place where they can thrive.

That’s why we want more Victorians to have the choice to call Ringwood home.

We’ve created theDraftRingwood Activity Centre Plan(PDF), to complement plans by your local council, to make sure we build more of the right types of homes in the right places, connected to the people and places we love.

Our plan will guide how Ringwood will slowly change over the next few decades, between now and 2051. And as Ringwood grows, we’ll make sure it continues to thrive by working with your local council to guide investment in the things that matter to you like improved streets, parks and community infrastructure.

It’s part ofVictoria’s Housing Statement, ourplan to deliver more homes for more Victorians, in the places people want to live.

Your council’s plans for Ringwood

In 2018, Maroondah City Council developed a plan for the Ringwood Activity Centre, called theRingwood Metropolitan Activity Centre Masterplan. We’re now working with your local council to review this masterplan.

Together, we’re proposing specific new rules for strategic development sites in Ringwood to make sure the activity centre will deliver enough of the right types of homes in the right places, and to ensure good-quality urban design outcomes.

We know the Ringwood community has provided a lot of feedback over the past few years about the future of Ringwood, and we are using your feedback to help with our review.

If you would like to provide feedback on our review of theRingwood Metropolitan Activity Centre Masterplan and our proposed new rules for strategic development sites in Ringwood, you can find out more in the ‘Get Involved’ tab above.

About the Activity Centres Program

Right across Victoria, not enough people have the chance to afford a home close to their daily needs. The status quo isn’t an option, we need to act now to make sure we build a future where every Victorian can afford a home that’s right for them.

We will need 1.8 million new homes in metropolitan Melbourne by 2051. Making sure that new homes are well-located will allow us to maximise use of existing infrastructure and transport. The starting point is to look for places where more homes can be built, and the types of homes we need to suit all kinds of Victorians in all kinds of places.

As part of Victoria’s Housing Statement, we’re working with the Department of Transport and Planning to deliver 60,000 new homes close to services, jobs, and public transport in an initial 10 activity centres across Melbourne: Broadmeadows, Camberwell Junction, Chadstone, Epping, Frankston, Moorabbin, Niddrie (Keilor Road), North Essendon, Preston (High Street), and Ringwood.

It’s part of Victoria’s plan to deliver more homes for more Victorians, in the places people want to live.
