A comprehensive approach to planning for all schools is needed in growing areas.
Government Schools
The VPA works closely with the Department of Education and Training (DET) to plan for Government schools.
Non-Government Schools
The VPA is committed to planning for non-government schools, which account for around 30 per cent of student enrollments in Victoria. Read more about our commitment here.
- Strategic justification for a non-government school site – This information sheet provides advice on how to demonstrate the strategic justification for a non-government school site in a Precinct Structure Plan (PSP).
- Development of non-government school sites for an alternative purpose – This information sheet provides advice on one approach that can be taken by a Responsible Authority in determining whether land shown as a non-government school site in a Precinct Structure Plan can be used for an alternative purpose.
GAIC and schools
It is recommended that schools, developers and landowners engage with the State Revenue Office and the VPA before making decisions relating to school sites within the GAIC contribution area to ascertain if they meet the requirements of the excluded events relating to schools.
