The Victorian Planning Authority proudly acknowledges Victoria’s Aboriginal community and their rich culture and pays respect to their Elders past and present.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as Australia’s first peoples and as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land and water on which we rely.

We recognise and value the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people and communities to Victorian life and how this enriches us.

We embrace the spirit of reconciliation, working towards the equality of outcomes and ensuring an equal voice.

Project Status Updates – May 2023

Since our last update in March 2023, the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) has made substantial progress.

Pitching sessions

We conducted pitching sessions online and in-person in Warrnambool. These sessions were valuable opportunities for landowners and government stakeholders to engage directly with the VPA team.

Engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders was immensely beneficial. Stakeholder input has been instrumental in shaping the planning process for this precinct.

Common themes

We heard several key priorities that resonated across different stakeholder groups:

  • A strong desire to create a sustainable community that leverages and enhances the natural features of the precinct.
  • Protecting against flooding and ensuring robust drainage systems are important considerations for all involved.
  • Comprehensive traffic management solutions to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and pedestrians throughout the precinct.
  • The desire for a diverse range of dwelling types, catering to various lifestyles and housing needs, has also been consistently expressed.

We are analysing and collating the information we received during the pitching sessions into a pitching summary document. This will identify the key themes and priorities we heard in more detail.

Next steps

The next stage of the engagement process is Vision and Purpose, which builds on the outcomes of the pitching sessions. This phase allows us to collectively set the scene and establish a shared vision for the East of Aberline precinct.

We are also working on updating the technical documents to ensure they align with the emerging aspirations and goals of the community.
