Project Status Updates

Project Status Updates – November 2023

We have been working with Melton City Council to progress the planning for Melton East by working on key priorities regarding the transport network, drainage infrastructure and cultural heritage.

Since our last update in July, we have:

  • Finalised and published the climate resilience assessment implementation plan and the Nissan Hut statement of significance.
  • Progressed the Kororoit Creek bridge feasibility assessment, transport modelling and integrated transport assessment, bushfire assessment, conservation area concept plans and the community infrastructure assessment.
  • Commenced the cultural values assessment with Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation by undertaking a walk on country.
  • Met with key stakeholders from Department of Transport and Planning, Melbourne Water and Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

On 20 September, the Victorian Government released Victoria’s Housing Statement: The decade ahead 2024-2034, in which it announced the Victorian Planning Authority will continue preparing Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs) for new housing and jobs in Melbourne and regional Victoria. We will conduct further work across 21 projects to deliver more than 60,000 homes and 60,000 jobs. These projects will deliver a sustainable supply of greenfield land, and more jobs close to home.

Melton East PSP is one of the 21 projects named in the Housing Statement.

In the coming months we will be focused on finalising technical studies, updating the draft place-based-plan and meeting with key stakeholders in preparation for agency validation early next year.

We are now in the process of updating our work program and confirming timings for this project. We will provide another update with more details on our next steps once our work program is confirmed.
