Project Status Updates

Project Status Updates – July 2023

The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) has been progressing the planning for Bendigo Regional Employment Precinct.

Since our last update in May we have:

  • Progressed phase 1 technical assessments, including Aboriginal cultural heritage, arboriculture, landscape and visual impact, historical heritage, utilities, land capability, sustainability and biodiversity.
  • Published the vision and purpose report, which can be found in the Supporting Documentation tab below.

Community feedback through pitching sessions and the vision and purpose workshops identified the importance of improving road and freight safety, efficiency and connectivity around Marong and into regional Victoria.

Transport investigation work

As part of the Victorian Government 23/24 State Budget, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) was allocated funds to investigate multi-modal connections for Marong and the Bendigo Regional Employment Precinct, including freight corridors/alignments.

The scope and timing of this transport investigation work will be prepared in collaboration with Regional Development Victoria, the City of Greater Bendigo, DTP and the VPA. Given the importance of this work, the co-design workshop will be delayed until it is complete. The workshop was originally anticipated for July 2023. The VPA is currently working with stakeholders to retime the broader project program in response.

The VPA will continue to work on this project during DTP’s investigations, but in a reduced capacity. The VPA will advance all work not co-dependent on the outcome of these investigations and aims to advance the project’s delivery once they are complete
